Tunisia is Africa's second least poor

Tunisia ranks second in Africa in terms of reducing multidimensional poverty, with only 0.9% of the population living in such poverty, according to the United Nations report of 2026. The report highlighted an unprecedented global increase in multidimensional poverty, with 18.9% of the population in 108 developing countries affected by it. The index focuses on three main dimensions: health, education, and living standards. The highest poverty rates are found in sub-Saharan Africa, where more than 600 million people live under the burden of poverty. Despite these challenges, the report showed that 33 countries managed to reduce their poverty indicators by half in less than 15 years, highlighting the effectiveness of policies and financial efforts in combating poverty.
