Egyptian court delays sentence after mother's plea

An Egyptian court has decided to suspend the enforcement of a six-month prison sentence against a young man convicted of drug use, based on a plea from his mother who requested an opportunity for his treatment and rehabilitation. She considered that the initial report was made out of concern for his safety, rather than for punitive purposes. The court heard from the defendant, who admitted to experimenting with heroin under the influence of friends, promising to stay away from drugs and to take care of his mother. This compassionate gesture has provided the defendant with a new chance to recover and rebuild his life.
