Tunisia marks Organ Donation Awareness Day

Tunisia reveals a steady increase in the number of organ donors and improvements in transplant procedures, despite not meeting the needs of the patients on the waiting list. Since the beginning of heart transplants in 1993, 64 procedures have been performed, and liver transplants since 1987 have included 87 adult cases and 22 children. The total number of kidney transplants since 1986 has reached 2,309, 80% of which were from living donors. Estimates indicate that these numbers are still relatively low compared to the approximately 200 new patients registered on the waiting list each year, with strict laws in place to protect donors and patients from trafficking. Tunisia also organizes awareness events, including the "Green Steps" race, to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation.
