Houthi leader urges Egypt to avoid military action

Houthi leader Mohamed Al-Faraj, a member of the Political Bureau of Ansar Allah, criticized Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's announcement of Egypt's readiness to defend Saudi Arabia. He considered this to reflect a decline in Egyptian decision-making independence and warned that it could open the door to military intervention in Yemen. Al-Faraj affirmed that Egypt had expected to play a mediating role in the Yemeni conflict, but instead might lean toward the Saudi-led coalition, which has been conducting military operations since 2015 to support the Yemeni government against the Houthis. He rejected any Egyptian intervention in Yemen and described the relationship between Saudi Arabia and Egypt as aligning with the interests of the Muslim Brotherhood. He pointed out that any move by Egypt could serve an adversarial side and expressed his disappointment with Cairo's stance on the Yemeni crisis.
