Tunisie Telegraph: Lobsters at 10 Dinars in Tunisia Markets

The article reveals an abundance of pink (rosy) lobsters in the Tunisian markets, with prices dropping to around ten dinars per kilogram. It raises questions about the source of this abundance, with explanations linking it to the spread of non-native marine species and climatic effects. Meanwhile, information indicates the existence of a lobster farm in Maloush, Menzel Bouzelfa, but it does not produce enough of the traded quantities in the market. Research confirms that most of the lobsters sold do not come from local aquaculture but are caught at sea, with imported species from the Atlantic Ocean spreading into the Mediterranean. This raises the question of whether the current abundance reflects an exceptional fishing season or if the spread of non-native species is significantly impacting the market. It also emphasizes the importance of distinguishing between product sources, whether from aquaculture or marine capture.
