Morocco plans to increase its hotel capacity by 20%, or 60,000 beds, by the time it hosts the 2030 World Cup. This move aims to capitalize on the international interest generated by its national team’s success in the World Cup held in Qatar, in order to boost the tourism sector, which contributes 7% to the GDP and employs hundreds of thousands. The government is investing over 190 billion dirhams (approximately $20 billion) in infrastructure, especially in railways and airports. Over the past four years, the number of beds has increased from 255,000 to more than 300,000, with expectations to attract 26 million visitors by 2030 and achieve record tourism revenues reaching 161 billion dirhams in 2027. Additionally, plans focus on diversifying tourism destinations and increasing flight routes from Europe, China, and the United States to strengthen the sector.
