Germany Reports Rise in Child Abuse

There has been a significant increase in cases of sexual assault against children in Germany over the past five years. Last year, police recorded 17,126 cases, nearly 1,600 more than in 2021. The number of female victims reached 13,870, compared to 4,866 among male victims. The number of suspects rose to 12,823, most of whom are men acting alone. The report also showed a 19.9% rise in cases of child exploitation through pornographic materials depicting children, with the number of cases doubling between 2021 and 2025 from 5,000 to over 11,500. Officials confirmed that more than half of these cases involved victims and suspects who were friends or relatives, and that these figures only represent reported and documented crimes, with many cases remaining unreported.
