India approves Japanese dengue vaccine

India has for the first time approved the sale of the Japanese "Kydenga" vaccine against dengue fever, following its certification by the Central Drug Authority. It is recommended in a two-dose regimen for individuals between the ages of 4 and 60 and is used in about 40 countries. The World Health Organization indicates that half of the world's population faces the risk of dengue infection, which causes between 100 and 400 million cases annually, with over a million cases recorded in India since at least 2021, and approximately 1,500 deaths.
