France is currently experiencing unprecedented wildfires, during which more than 116,085 hectares have been burned since the start of the fire season. This figure is significantly higher than the 70,000 hectares recorded in 2022. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecoourno reported that over 160 people have been detained or questioned for intentionally setting fires since July 6, confirming that some fires are caused by negligence, such as discarded cigarettes or barbecues. Most fires are still under control, but some, like the one in Gironde which consumed 42,000 hectares, remain ongoing. Authorities expect that the coming days will be difficult.
