Lebanese designer and researcher Joe Shlitta has launched a digital project that transforms nine rare embroidery designs dating back to the 13th century, discovered in 1990 inside a cave in Hadath Al-Jibeeh, northern Lebanon, into a comprehensive digital collection. The project aims to preserve the carvings, transmit the knowledge and craftsmanship associated with them, and enable researchers and artisans to utilize them in creative projects. This involves redrawing the motifs and converting them into high-resolution embroidery patterns and SVG files for future use. These designs are considered some of the oldest embroidered fabrics found in Lebanon and the region, depicted on Marian mummies wearing them. The project enhances Lebanon's historical significance in the field of embroidery arts and helps preserve the cultural identity of this heritage.
