China has launched a five-year action plan for the period from 2026 to 2030 aimed at strengthening disaster protection against geological hazards, especially in light of climate change. The plan includes relocating 50,000 families from high-risk areas, implementing engineering projects at over 4,200 sites, and removing safety hazards at more than 6,100 locations. It also focuses on improving monitoring and early warning systems, studying disaster mechanisms caused by heavy rains and weather fluctuations. China intends to establish a national disaster information platform and enhance coordination between its national and local systems using big data technologies and artificial intelligence, in order to increase protection levels and control geological risks that threaten more than 11 million people. Approximately 280,000 sites are identified as at risk.
