Dr. Hadi Al-Yami, Executive Director of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Body affiliated with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, revealed that efforts are underway to establish the "Islamic Observatory for Human Rights." Furthermore, he highlighted the role of the Islamic Day for Human Rights, observed on August 5, as an occasion to reinforce commitment to protecting human dignity and fundamental rights. He also warned of challenges facing the organization, including limited funding that has not been reviewed since 2018 despite the expansion of its responsibilities. He stressed the importance of updating the internal regulations to improve effectiveness. Al-Yami reiterated the body’s independence and the necessity for member states to cooperate on human rights reforms, working towards issuing recommendations on AI governance and children’s rights, especially given that over 60% of the populations in member states are under thirty. He expressed hope that, by 2030, the body will have a stronger presence and be more effective as a practical partner for the member countries.
