Washington charges 17 for Iran-linked hacks
The U.S. Department of Justice announced that 17 individuals working with an Iranian company are charged with conducting hacking operations and data theft targeting American universities, companies, and government agencies, on behalf of the (Mabna) Institute, which carries out hacking campaigns in support of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its allies. These operations have targeted hundreds of American and international universities, dozens of companies, and more than five government agencies. The previous indictment in March 2018 charged nine of these individuals with launching attacks on the U.S. Department of Labor, the United Nations, and networks in Hawaii and Indiana.
