Spain accelerates migrant repatriation in Ceuta

The Spanish government is working to speed up the repatriation of migrants stranded in Ceuta, following an influx of around 72,000 irregular migrants from Morocco at the end of July. About 70,000 of them have been returned. Between 5% and 10% of these migrants, that is, between 3,500 and 7,000 people, including unaccompanied minors, remain in the city. Authorities are facing challenges in identifying their identities and in returning those eligible for asylum or deporting others. Therefore, the Council of Ministers has approved the creation of a unified command for Ceuta to improve coordination, and of new reception centers to accommodate migrants, while ensuring human rights and the rights of minors.
