Algeria installs sensors to prevent fires

The Algerian authorities announced the deployment of monitoring and surveillance devices following the wildfires that occurred in the country, in order to prevent their recurrence. A total of 118 fires have been extinguished, with firefighting efforts continuing in five other blazes in the states of Jijel, Sétif, and Tébessa, involving the evacuation of some families and support from rescue teams with aircraft. The fires have resulted in at least 73 deaths, amid ongoing follow-up and solidarity efforts from the Algerian Red Crescent. The material damages are estimated to be significant, including the destruction of approximately 80% of the forest cover.
