Gulf security coordination predated GCC

Jassem Al-Badwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, affirmed that the member countries have been collaborating and exchanging expertise since its establishment in 1981, particularly in security matters, and that an integrated security system was established even before the creation of the council. Since the first meeting of the Council of Ministers of Interior in 1982, security coordination has continued extensively, with cooperation taking place at both official and unofficial levels. The recent meetings were crowned by the escalation of Iranian attacks on the Gulf region, during which strategies were devised to enhance security and foster coordination among the member states. Al-Badwi also emphasized that the six countries are currently cooperating in areas such as combating cybercrime, artificial intelligence, and drug control through joint committees and centers, aiming to achieve the highest level of integration across all security and military domains.
