Turkish Industry Minister: Moon spacecraft ready
Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology, Mehmet Fatih Kacar, announced that Turkey has completed the production of its lunar lander spacecraft, which is scheduled to undertake an exploratory mission in 2027. He confirmed that the spacecraft, weighing approximately 3.5 tons, will initially enter an elliptical orbit around the Earth before being directed toward the Moon. As it approaches the Moon, it will enter lunar orbit and function as an artificial satellite before landing on its surface. This achievement marks a first for Turkey, making it one of only nine countries worldwide capable of reaching the Moon. The success of this mission will rely on more than 80% locally sourced components, along with the development of a hybrid propulsion system and a fully domestically produced rocket engine. The launch is planned for early 2027 from Kennedy Space Center in the United States, after final tests are completed at the Turkish TUSAŞ factory.
