Mozzah Airport: From detention to business hub

The Mleza Airport Rehabilitation Project in Damascus aims to classify it as a specialized civilian airport for private and business aviation, after having been used for military purposes. The current works include removing debris and rehabilitating the infrastructure related to air navigation, taking into account the presence of potential mass graves containing the remains of former detainees. Field visits have been carried out to ensure the protection of the targeted sites. The rehabilitation process raises concerns about possible tampering with the sites of these potential graves, especially in light of demands from the residents of Moadamiyah for compensation due to the unjust seizure of their lands fifty years ago, which also relate to the rights of the affected landowners. The project aims to diversify aviation services in Syria and alleviate pressure on Damascus International Airport, all while respecting the rights of the victims and the potential burial sites.
