A study conducted by the Computing Institute at the University of Campinas in Brazil reveals that AI models, including ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeekK, and Grok, exhibit a behavior called "ideological chameleonism," where their stances change based on the expected political identity of the user. The researchers tested 21 language models by evaluating 112 contradictory political statements on a five-point scale, and found that the models tend to support or oppose the statements in accordance with the political identity attributed to the user. A higher "chameleon" index indicates greater adaptability of the system. The researchers warn that this behavior deepens the phenomenon of "digital echo chambers," where content becomes centered around the user's ideas, potentially reinforcing and reiterating beliefs, which poses a threat of increasing political polarization in society.
