Asmara severs relations with Addis Ababa

Eritrea severed all diplomatic relations with Ethiopia in response to Addis Ababa's decision to close its embassy in Asmara and to declare Eritrean ambassadors as persona non grata, including the chargé d'affaires and representatives to the African Union. The Eritrean Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Ethiopia accused Eritrea of "aggressive and wartime activities" to justify escalation, pointing to allegations that Eritrea hosts, trains, and arms armed opposition groups aimed at changing the regime in Asmara. This escalation comes after Eritrea had endured patience over the past period, but current circumstances have compelled it to make this decision, which is expected to lead to negative repercussions for the relations between the two countries.
