Turkey extends Kirkuk-Jihan pipeline to Basra as strategic Strait alternative

Turkey affirms that extending the Kirkuk-Jihan pipeline to the Basra port and increasing its capacity represents an important strategic step to provide a strong alternative for the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz, aimed at enhancing energy supply security. This was stated during a meeting between Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar and Iraqi Oil Minister Bassem Muhammad Khader, where they discussed long-term cooperation in the energy sector and plans to develop a roadmap for a new agreement encompassing infrastructure projects, exploration, production, and transportation. The project involves connecting oil fields in Kirkuk to the Jihan port on the Mediterranean Sea, spanning 970 kilometers, with a commitment to increase oil flow to one million barrels per day, and to boost Jihan port’s status as a global energy hub, alongside ongoing cooperation to achieve stability and development in the region.
