Anwar Gargash counters Ali Larijani on the Three Islands

Anwar Gargash, the UAE Presidential Advisor, responded to criticism from Iranian Supreme Leader Advisor Ali Akbar Velayati regarding the UAE’s statement at the United Nations, which reaffirmed its sovereignty over the three occupied islands (Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa). Gargash emphasized that the UAE’s position is political, and that its rights are firmly supported by historical facts and documents. He stated that the UAE will continue to seek a peaceful resolution to the dispute through negotiations or by resorting to the International Court of Justice. Iran responded by asserting that the islands have been and remain Iranian, citing historical maps and documents, and that geography does not change due to a statement. The UAE reaffirmed its stance at the UN, reiterating its demand for the end of Iranian occupation of these islands through diplomatic or legal means.
