The execution of American Krista Bick was halted after the attempt to carry out the sentence using two doses of the drug pentobarbital failed, as she remained in the hospital unconscious and on a ventilator. It is still unknown to what extent she has regained consciousness. This is the second time in Tennessee this year that an execution has failed, leading to the resignation of the state's director of corrections and a temporary suspension of all executions. Bick, who was convicted of killing her schoolmate in 1995, survived two lethal injections of the drug, and the state governor is now reviewing new procedures for carrying out executions.
