China aims to challenge US AI leadership

Reports reveal that the performance gap between Chinese and American AI models has narrowed to its lowest point, with the Chinese model Deep Sek V4.1 now lagging behind its American counterpart by only 3%, down from a 15% gap at the beginning of the year. This rapid progress is attributed to the expertise of Chinese researchers and their success in adapting their models to operate efficiently on local hardware, despite American export restrictions aimed at slowing China's advancement in the field. While Chinese models now demonstrate performance very close to global leaders, the sector still faces challenges in turning this technical superiority into profits amid a crowded market and reservations about China's ability to convert technical gains into sustainable revenue before 2030.
