Makkah Pact: Launch of Collective Defense Initiatives

The Joint Defense Committee of the "Mecca Pact," which includes Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan, agreed to immediately implement their collective defense commitments. It was also decided to rapidly deploy military forces in Saudi Arabia to enhance readiness and deter threats. This decision followed an emergency meeting in Riyadh, in light of recent escalation in Yemen between Saudi-backed forces and the Iran-supported Houthi group, whose attacks on Saudi Arabia have intensified, posing a threat to regional security. The alliance condemned the attacks on Mecca and Medina, reaffirming its commitment to defend its territories. Additionally, retired Pakistani General Numan Mahmoud was appointed as Secretary-General of the agreement for a three-year term. The Houthis also announced their intention to target Saudi ships in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, while continuing to launch missiles and drones at Saudi Arabia, further increasing security tensions and maritime challenges in the region.
