WHO and Washington Seek More Details on Moscow Plague

Reports indicate that the United States and other countries are demanding greater transparency from Russia regarding the death of a 28-year-old Russian researcher in Irkutsk. She is suspected to have contracted pneumonic plague following an incident at a laboratory. Although Russian authorities have not confirmed that the researcher was infected with the plague, investigations are focused on the cause of death and preventive measures, amid concerns about the potential spread of the disease in the region. The World Health Organization has confirmed that there have been no recent cases of plague in Irkutsk and is closely monitoring the situation in cooperation with China and Mongolia, amid calls for more information about the case.
