Religiosity Gaps Found in German Muslims

A German study indicates that religiosity and religiously committed civilians contribute to strengthening social cohesion, especially among Catholics and Protestants, with levels of cohesion increasing as the degree of religiosity rises. Conversely, it appears that Muslims, particularly the more religious among them, suffer from a decline in community engagement, attributed to factors such as discrimination, lack of societal recognition, and the influence of religious narratives that portray the state and society as enemies of Islam. The study also revealed an ongoing crisis of trust in institutions, with low confidence in the government and a sense of injustice, which in turn impacts social cohesion within the country.
