Britain Nears Consulate Closure in Jerusalem

Reports indicated that the Israeli government ordered Britain to close its consulate in East Jerusalem within 30 days. London responded by stating it would impose sanctions on the settlements in the occupied West Bank. The measures included removing signs and markings from the building, while the British flag remained flying, amidst deteriorating relations between the two countries. This step comes as part of a dispute related to British sanctions on Israeli settlements and Israel's retaliatory measures. The British consulate, which has been in place for about 200 years, remains an important hub for relations with the Palestinians.
