Israel’s International Isolation Costs Rise

Israel is facing increasing international isolation, as Britain undertakes efforts to reorganize and limit the operation of its consulate in Jerusalem following its official closure. After the Israeli Foreign Minister's decision took effect, staff at the British Consulate removed their flags, and London announced plans to keep a limited team in place to provide services to Palestinians and British citizens. Britain has emphasized that it does not recognize Israel's right to close the consulate, stating that the building will continue to operate under the name "The British Mission in Jerusalem," with a temporary withdrawal of staff due to insufficient security guarantees. These measures come amid concerns over potential sanctions on Israeli financial institutions that deal with settlements, European repercussions on the export of military equipment, as well as tighter security procedures for Israelis at Dutch airports. This reflects a deterioration in diplomatic relations with Britain and Israeli efforts to reduce European presence in Jerusalem, heightening the perception of Israel’s declining international standing and escalating its isolation.
