President Erdoğan opens Turkey-Europe high-speed rail
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan inaugurated the high-speed train line between Çerkezköy and Kapıkule, which connects Turkey to Europe via the railway. The line contributes to reducing the travel time between Istanbul and Edirne from 4 hours to an hour and a half, and decreases freight transfer time from 8.5 to 3.5 hours, while increasing capacity fourfold. The project aims to enhance transportation and logistics services, support the Turkish economy and trade, and spans a length of 229 kilometers across three phases. It is also considered part of the "Middle Corridor" and the "Development Road" projects, which link Turkey to European and Asian markets. These initiatives facilitate the movement of goods and people and maximize the benefits of Turkey’s high-speed rail network, which is expected to expand to over 28,000 kilometers by 2053.
