The Mayor of New York, Zahran Mammedani, called for a halt to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in the city following a shooting incident in which a driver from the Dominican Republic was injured in front of his five-year-old child. Mammedani confirmed that ICE agents targeted the vehicle during an arrest operation and fired seven shots, hitting the driver. He considered the incident unjustifiable and argued that it increases the city's insecurity, demanding the removal of ICE from New York. The incident sparked angry reactions from officials and politicians. An investigation revealed that the officers targeted the vehicle based on specific operations, with the suspect allegedly positioning himself in a way that threatened the agents’ lives, while many officials rejected this explanation. The case continues to raise controversy regarding the use of force against migrants and children.
