Sudanese Civil Forces Meet International Quintet in Addis

The articles detail the ongoing political meetings and movements in Addis Ababa regarding efforts to achieve peace in Sudan. This includes negotiations between Sudanese civil society groups opposed to the war and the Quintet Mechanism, which consists of the African Union, the United Nations, the European Union, the Arab League, and IGAD. The discussions focus on achieving a permanent ceasefire and a democratic civilian transition. The negotiations emphasize an immediate humanitarian truce, the involvement of independent civil society forces in the peace process, and the rejection of participation by warring parties' organizations such as the National Congress and the Islamic Movement. There is also a call for unifying mediations and exerting international pressure through weapon sanctions and accountability for those responsible for atrocities. This comes after various political debates and reservations, in addition to the Sudanese army’s recent downing of a drone near the Blue Nile, highlighting ongoing military escalation and security risks.
