Salam commits to accountability in explosives case

Lebanese Prime Minister Nuwaf Salameh emphasized that there will be no leniency regarding any weapons outside the framework of legality. He directed an extensive investigation into the confiscated explosive shipments, which totaled approximately 200 kilograms and were smuggled from Syria into Lebanon, in order to identify the perpetrators and refer them to the judiciary. These statements come after the Lebanese army seized three shipments of explosive materials since early October, as the government implements strict measures to combat smuggling and secure the borders. There are ongoing concerns about potential security escalation or preparations for military action, especially with the Israeli elections approaching. Additionally, Hezbollah rejected the accusations against it, affirming the resistance’s right to self-defense and expressing frustration over the state and army’s performance in facing Israeli threats.
