September new energy vehicle share hits 61.6%

The Chinese auto market experienced significant growth in 2026, with sales of new energy vehicles reaching a record 61.6% of total new car sales in September. This reflects a strong trend toward environmentally friendly vehicles. During the first three months, their cumulative share stood at 53.6%, with production and sales increasing by over 10% annually, reaching approximately 12.5 million units in that period. Additionally, vehicle exports, including new energy vehicles, grew rapidly, rising by 61.4% in September, with more than 4 million units exported by the end of September—twice the level of the previous year. Data indicates that expectations for a rebound and expansion in the automotive sector will continue, despite external challenges, as reliance on environmentally friendly vehicles in the Chinese market continues to grow.
