China urged to advance health progress

Chinese President Xi Jinping called for the comprehensive and characteristic development and enhancement of healthcare programs in China, aiming to make decisive progress during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030). He emphasized that the health of the population is a primary measure of the nation's prosperity. He pointed out that China has achieved historic milestones since the launch of the "Healthy China" initiative in 2012, including the construction of the world's largest healthcare and traditional medicine systems. Statistics indicate that the average life expectancy rose to 79.25 years in 2025, and over 90% of the population can access healthcare within 15 minutes. The efforts focus on deepening prevention, strengthening medical institutions, supporting the development of Chinese traditional medicine, training healthcare professionals, ensuring policy and healthcare services coordination, and fostering international cooperation to address global health challenges.
