Taiwan invests $4.4B in Alaskan gas
Taiwan plans to invest $4.4 billion in developing a natural gas pipeline project in Alaska. As part of a deal announced by the Trump administration, Taiwan has agreed to purchase 30% of the liquefied natural gas from the project, aiming to boost American energy exports to Asia. Despite the announcement, details regarding targeted quantities or the timeline for commencing supply remain unclear. This investment seeks to ensure stable energy supplies and strengthen the island’s resilience in the face of potential reductions in other sources. Meanwhile, Taiwan is increasing its imports of American gas, aiming to reach about one-third of its reserves this year.
