China sentences three telecom fraud leaders

China has issued death sentences to three leaders of a family gang involved in telecommunications fraud and gambling in Myanmar. The court found that the gang exploited its influence to establish fraudulent complexes in Kachin State and used armed force to maintain control since 2019. The crimes committed, which included fraud, gambling, extortion, prostitution, and drug trafficking, totaled approximately $1.81 billion. Family members were also specifically convicted of using violence to carry out random killings. The confrontations resulted in the deaths of Chinese citizens. Some members were sentenced to life imprisonment or served sentences ranging from 3 to 24 years, along with fines and confiscations.
