Berlin coalition talks slowed by anti-Semitism dispute

The Green Party and the Social Democratic Party suspended talks to form a government in Berlin amid a dispute with the Left Party over the anti-Semitism declaration signed by the parliamentary group of the Left Party. The discussion was halted after the parties announced the suspension of exploratory talks due to disagreements over how compatible the declaration is with previous understandings, especially regarding measures to address anti-Semitic incidents within the Left Party. This comes amid ongoing tensions surrounding the positions of some party members on Israel and Palestine, particularly as some are criticized for their stances, while the party affirms its commitment to combating hatred and promoting a safe Jewish community, along with supporting Israel's right to exist. The future of the coalition remains uncertain, as consultations continue on forming a government led by the Left Party with its candidate Elif Eralp.
