Turkey handed over the leadership of the NATO peacekeeping force in Kosovo, "KFOR," to Italy today, Wednesday, following its second time leading the mission in October 2025. The transfer ceremony took place at the force's headquarters in Pristina, in the presence of international and local officials, during which command was officially transferred from Turkish Brigadier General Ouzkan Oltash to Italian Brigadier General Roberto Vergori. Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani emphasized the importance of the "KFOR" force in enhancing security and building trust, as well as contributing to Kosovo's efforts to join NATO. She pointed out that "KFOR" has helped create a secure environment for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, noting that Turkey has been a key leader of the force since the American mandate in 1999. The "KFOR" contingent includes more than 4,500 soldiers from 31 countries, and the force continues to play a vital role in maintaining security and stability in the region.
