Egypt urged to disclose corruption signs

The article discusses the crisis in Egypt regarding the decline in corruption indicators, as Egypt scored 30 points on the 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index, ranking 130th worldwide, after previously scoring 35 points and being in 108th place in 2023. Deputy Freddy Elbayady called on the government to reveal the sources of widespread wealth and clarify the implementation of anti-corruption strategies since 2014, along with providing annual reports on the results and asset recovery efforts. The index measures perceptions of corruption in the public sector and relies on 13 independent sources; a lower score indicates higher levels of corruption. The deputy emphasized the need to link anti-corruption efforts to its ability to prevent violations, recover stolen funds, and achieve transparency, stressing that corruption affects public money, investment, and citizens' trust. He called for a set of measures to enhance oversight effectiveness, accountability, and the protection of whistleblowers.
