Trump ramps up pressure on Ilhan Omar
U.S. federal authorities confiscated Representative Ilhan Omar's phone and issued more than 12 subpoenas as part of a criminal investigation related to her immigration files that led to her obtaining American citizenship. The investigation focuses on how she acquired her citizenship after immigrating from Somalia, including the procedures followed by her late father, though no formal charges have been filed so far. These investigative steps come weeks before the midterm elections, at a time when Omar is facing attacks from President Trump and doubts about her right to representation and her constitutional status, raising concerns about political targeting using state powers.
