Syrian coast incident convictions

Syrian courts have issued death sentences against two loyalists of the former regime and a 20-year prison term for a member of the Ministry of Defense, due to their involvement in sectarian violence that took place in the Syrian coastal areas in March 2025. These events resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,700 people, most of whom were Alawites. The rulings also included prison sentences for seven other defendants, some of whom are members of the Ministry of Defense, following their conviction for crimes related to inciting sectarian strife and fueling civil conflict, as well as murders and torture carried out during those events.
