Iraqi Oil Official Testifies in Corruption Trial

The Iraqi Criminal Court for Anti-Corruption has set October 19th as the date for the trial of Deputy Mithna Al-Samarrai, who is accused of corruption crimes related to illicit gains and bribery, in accordance with Article 319 of the Penal Code. The case also includes the appearance of the Deputy Minister of Oil, Adnan Al-Jumaili, as a witness. Meanwhile, Al-Samarrai was arrested in June during the "Fajr Operation" anti-corruption campaign, which saw a decline in activity following political pressure. A leader from the Azm Alliance confirmed that the case pertains to a mediation conducted by Al-Samarrai, but emphasized their respect for the judiciary and stated that the case currently does not affect the coalition’s participation in the government.
