Iraq Appointments Under Faction Pressure
Media reports and certain forces in Iraq have accused the Zaydi government of remaining hostage to the influence of armed factions. Sources revealed that members of the Sayyid al-Shuhada Brigades control the Ministry of Tourism, and that figures close to militias and armed factions have been appointed to ministerial positions, including the Ministries of Defense and Interior. A new government has been approved, featuring important ministries and newly established portfolios, despite political controversy over the appointment of figures associated with unlawful power centers. This situation further consolidates the control of armed militias, which receive support from Iran, over state management and diminishes the powers of the prime minister. Analyses indicate that the formation of the government was carried out in a manner that safeguards militia interests, leading to a decline in the prospects of qualified professionals. Meanwhile, Iranian influence has increased, and armed factions have become more entrenched within the state's institutions.
