Scientists find first green star

Astronomers have discovered for the first time a star that appears green to the human eye, during a study of white dwarfs—remnants of sun-like stars that have exhausted their fuel. The researchers explained that these stars typically display colors ranging from orange to white and blue, but some cases show unusual reactions in their outer layers, leading to significant deviations in their spectra and resulting in a green hue. This green coloration is caused by the presence of elements such as calcium, sodium, and lithium on the star's surface. It is believed that elements like iron, magnesium, and sodium originate from the breakup of asteroids or dust falling onto the white dwarf's surface, thus providing a tool for studying the composition of ancient planets. These findings enable scientists to better understand the rocky material makeup of old planets and deepen their knowledge of early planetary system formation. The green star is among 151 white dwarfs located approximately 65 light-years from Earth.
