West Bank settlers confront European visitors
The olive harvest season in the occupied West Bank has witnessed a significant increase in violence. On Saturday, October 17, 2026, masked Israeli settlers attacked European diplomats, including representatives from the embassies of France, Belgium, and Poland, during their visit to the predominantly Christian area of Taybeh. The assault resulted in injuries to a French mayor, Bernard Boudo, who stated that such actions reflect leniency from the Israeli government and described them as violent and unjustified. Israeli police have launched an investigation into the incident, and Israel’s Foreign Minister described the perpetrators of the attack as "Israeli rioters," emphasizing that the visit was not coordinated with the Israeli military. These events occur amid escalating tensions during the olive harvest season, amid accusations from Israel of attempts to tarnish its image and ongoing reports of settler violence in the area.
