France protests see fires and vandalism

France has experienced widespread violence and unrest, leading to the destruction of buildings, including the historic Town Hall in Limoges, during protests against the rising cost of living that involved over half a million demonstrators. Police detained approximately 1,200 people, and clashes erupted with protesters who set fires and looted shops and public institutions, resulting in injuries to 150 security personnel and the damage of numerous public and private buildings. President Emmanuel Macron pledged to pursue and punish those responsible for the riots. As political criticism intensifies, an American congressman stated that the reasons for the unrest stem from weak integration and immigration issues in France.
