Mehrdad Akhlaki appointed as Iranian Defense Minister
The Iranian parliament has approved the appointment of Mehrdad Akhlaghi as Minister of Defense, amid Iranian warnings of a sudden and extensive military response if the United States and Israel launch a new attack on Iran. Akhlaghi confirmed that Iran's response would be swift and strong, and that his country would take responsibility for any regional or international repercussions of such an attack. The Ministry of Defense’s priority is focused on expanding military production, strengthening research and development, and reorganizing the administrative structure to counter threats, with the armed forces prepared to face any attack with a more destructive plan than previous wars.
