Europe protests cause injuries and damage

Europe has witnessed widespread protests against rising living costs, marked by acts of violence and vandalism that resulted in injuries and numerous arrests. In France, police detained more than 2,000 people and over 600 security officers were injured during riots and acts of destruction in multiple cities, with approximately 550,000 protesters according to the Ministry of the Interior, and 800,000 according to organizers. These events also led to the death of a demonstrator in Paris, along with property and institutional damage, with President Emmanuel Macron promising to prosecute the vandals. Other countries also saw protests, including Albania, where 59 people were injured; Belgium, where 45 protesters were arrested; and Italy, where clashes occurred in Milan. Portugal experienced large demonstrations in Lisbon against high costs. The protests primarily focused on the rising cost of living, housing crises, educational policies, and cuts to public spending. The demands later expanded to include anti-corruption measures and improvements to the economy.
