Gulf urges US-Iran talks; Al-Azhar suggests Arab mediation
The foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council called for the resumption of dialogue and diplomacy to end the crisis between the United States and Iran, expressing support for regional and international mediation efforts aimed at reaching a political solution. The statements emphasized the importance of addressing unresolved issues such as Iran's nuclear program, missiles, and drones, while respecting the sovereignty of nations and non-interference in their internal affairs. They also highlighted the need to ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and other vital waterways. Additionally, the ministers condemned Iran's missile and drone attacks on GCC countries, holding Iran responsible for these assaults. They affirmed their solidarity with Saudi Arabia in facing ongoing attacks from Yemen and supported the Kingdom's right to defend itself. These calls come amid stalled diplomatic efforts to restore relations between Washington and Tehran, leaving the region's tensions combustible.
